Excel Master
Export detailed printer data to Excel for customized analysis, reporting, and deeper exploration using familiar spreadsheet tools.
Introduction
Sometimes, a generic dashboard isn't enough, you need full control to slice and dice your data however you want.
And when it comes to flexibility, Excel remains the go-to tool for many.
This guide shows you how to export data from Durst Analytics to Excel so that you can build your own reports and uncover insights based on your specific use case.
Tools and Data Sources
Whether you're using the cloud view or a local dashboard, you can export data to Excel.
The full Excel export contains multiple sheets, organized by data category. Here's what you can expect:
-
General: Printer metadata and configuration
-
Job Statistic: Detailed information on printed jobs
-
Error History: Logged errors and interruptions
-
Printer Event: Operational events such as start/stop, maintenance, etc.
-
KPIs: Key performance indicators like uptime, output, and efficiency
-
Substrate: Substrate types used and related statistics
-
Color Channels: One sheet per color channel configured on your machine: - Cyan - Magenta - Yellow - Black - White, etc.
Color SetupThe number and names of color sheets depend on your printer configuration. If your machine supports additional colors (for example: Orange, Violet, Varnish), they will each have their own sheet in the export.
-
Column Documentation - A reference sheet describing each column in every sheet
Issues and Challenges
The main challenge with Excel exports is identifying which data is relevant for your analysis and which columns can be safely ignored.
A few important considerations
-
Not all columns are filled for every printer type. Why?
Because the export format is standardized across all machines to simplify automation. Some customers have built pipelines to ingest these Excel files. Varying the format per machine would break these pipelines. -
The exported file is an
.xlsxExcel workbook with multiple sheets:- Different sheets represent different data types (for example: job stats, ink usage)
- The final sheet is a column explanation page that describes each column and its purpose
Timestamps in the export are recorded in the local time zone of the printer.
If you're comparing printers across multiple regions, be sure to align their time zones in Excel to ensure accurate analysis.
Goal
The goal is to empower you to:
- Analyze your data on your own terms
- Build custom reports and dashboards in Excel
- Derive specific insights tailored to your operational or business needs
Now it’s your turn, dive into the data and create the reports that matter most to you.
Example
While the export is powerful, it’s not tailored to every edge case. Expect to do some cleanup or filtering inside Excel, especially if your use case involves merging multiple time zones, machine types, or data layers.
Still, it’s a reliable way to get full access to your data in a familiar, flexible format.
If you need even more control or want to automate data extraction, consider using the Analytics+ REST API.
